on the allocation of public funds, that is Central Government public funds for major companies such as the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and the Hong Kong Ballet Company. The Council will have to be assured that such companies have sound long-term strategies with active and well-balanced boards and efficient management to ensure that funds allocated are well spent. Only by doing so
will the Council be able to responsibly advise Government on. the proper allocation of funds. The Council should also be able to suitably advise Government through the Municipal Services branch on the allocation
Z of funds to other performing companies and individual artistes. It is hoped that the role of the Council of the Performing Arts will become even more significant in the
