MRS. CHOW : Can the Secretary for Education and Manpower
dispel recent rumours that yet another big jump in minimum
salaries will be introduced for the overseas domestic
helpers in question as this would certainly be viewed as
over-protection for these workers?
SECRETARY FOR EDUCATION AND MANPOWER : Sir, this is
getting slightly outside my policy area but the custom has
been in recent years to review wages from time to time to
keep up with going rates but I am not aware myself of any
current proposals for further increases.
