Question:

Will Government inform this Council whether it has any plans to remove not only abandoned advertising signboards but also large ones which protrude well into the middle of the road and which are potentially dangerous?

SECRETARY FOR LANDS AND WORKS:

Yes, Sir, the Government has such plans. recognising the potential danger of those signs, a new unit was established on 1 April 1987 the Dangerous Signs Unit of the Buildings Ordinance Office.

This nit has moved fast. In addition to removing about 440 abandoned signs, the pnit's action, which includes surveys, has resulted in the removal by voluntary means of a further 1,000 potentially dangerous signs of various shapes and sizes and some which protrude

into the road.
