TAKEN
Introduced by John Marek, welcomed Martin Lee and representatives of FAC.
Martin Lee complained of MPS ignorance about Hong Kong. All was not resolved in 1984. Ran through recent history and 'promises of progressive democracy'.
Resentment that HK Governor has made two visit to Beijing since April. Chinese Government being allowed too much influence now implies British Government will fail to secure sufficient democratic rights for people of Hong Kong in long term. Believes that recent F&CO Ministers have not maintained commitment made by Richard Luce in 1985 that arrangements until 1997 would be the responsibility of the British Government. Betrayal of British promise of democracy.
Complaints about opinion poll and biased collection of information.
Believes petition was not given sufficient weight. over 213,000 signatures in two days a substantial achievement. Many HK citizens fear long term retaliatory action by Chinese in signing a document together with identity card number. really have been given same weight as submissions.
