available:
(a) as a businessman or self-employed person, an
individual would be admitted to this country provided he
was willing to invest at least £150,000 in a business in
the UK which was likely to create jobs. The income from
the business should be capable of supporting him and his
dependents without him having to take alternative
employment;
(b)
as someone with a high degree of skill and
experience, an individual may be eligible to come to this
country to take a specific job, under work permit
arrangements operated by the Department of Employment;
(c)
as someone with certain specialised manual skills
(eg as a cook) an individual may be eligible to come
this country under a scheme for workers from the
Dependent Territories operated by the Department of
Employment. The current annual quota for Hong Kong is
150;
(a) there are certain very limited categories of
people (eg sole representatives of overseas firms) who
can come to this country to work without a work permit.
Persons admitted to this country to work in each of
the four categories listed above can apply for settlement
after four years' residence in this country. Once
