It was so good to have received
your letter of 19th January 1988 on the subject of the proposed library to be established at the Ningbo University. I apologize for not writing back earlier since I came back from a trip only recently.
I was pleased to note that some positive steps have been taken to obtain contributions from British firms towards the cost of the Ningbo library and am looking forward to hearing some good news from you in this respect.
As regards the choice of university for the establishment of a corresponding library in the U.K., I have approached Sir Mark Richmond, Chairman of the Committee of Vice Chancellors and Principals, and he has recommended a list of universities for my choice. I will, of course, keep you informed of further developments.
My sincere thanks to you for taking your time to contact the British business and academic communities and I have no doubt that you would continue to render your support to this meaningful project.
