Born in Peking in 1927, Zhou Nan is the Vice-Minister
in charge of Western European Affairs. He is also
responsible for Hong Kong and Macao business in the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He was the leader of the
Chinese delegation in the negotiations with Britain and
Portugal on the future of the two territories.
Earlier
diplomatic experience includes service in Pakistan,
Tanzania and the United Nations in New York. He is
intelligent, ruthless and ambitious, though capable of
great charm when the occasion demands or when he is
pleased with events.
