(41) In legal aid cases, counsel and solicitors should be appropriately remunerated

during the adjournent period [paragraph 5.19].

(42) There should be a greater readiness to impose appropriate sanctions on those

causing unnecessary delays at trial [paragraph 5.21].

†(43) Jurors should receive from prosecution and defence counsel copies of the following documents: case statements; statement of matters agreed; summaries of principal issues; opening and closing speeches of counsel; summaries of evidence and experts' reports [paragraph 6.22].

†(44) The judge should have discretion to make transcripts of evidence available to

the jury [paragraph 6.23].

†(45) The jury should be given copies of the judge's summing up or the equivalent

official court notes, at the judge's discretion [paragraph 6.24].

(46) Documentary evidence, particularly numerical information, should be

presented clearly and concisely at trial [paragraph 6.26].

(47) A glossary of technical terms should be prepared for each case by prosecution counsel, drawing on a comprehensive glossary to be stored on computer [paragraph 6.27].

(48) Consideration should be given to the use of computers to store and retrieve evidence at trial, provided security of information is safeguarded [para- graph 6.28].

+(49) The judge should have the power to order the use of modern visual aids at trial

[paragraph 6.29].

(50) Courtrooms should be provided with facilities for overhead projectors and for

the storage of documents and computer software [paragraph 6.29].

†(51) The rules of evidence should be reviewed in the light of the conclusions reached

in the text [paragraphs 6.30–6.33].

*(52) Reciprocal arrangements for taking evidence should be negotiated with other

foreign jurisdictions [paragraph 6.34].

*(53) A decision should be taken on the Trial of Commercial Crimes Bill 1985, in the light of the conclusion that the mode of trial for complex commercial crimes should remain unchanged (paragraph 7.26].

(54) Prosecution counsel should be selected on the basis of their relevant experience

[paragraph 8.12].

*(55) More advanced training in accountancy should be made available to members

of the Bar [paragraph 8.13].

*(56) The provision of specialized accounting staff available to the CCB should be reviewed, and efforts should be made to maximize the use of in-house accountants [paragraph 8.14].

(57) The defence should make increased use of accountants and other specialists

[paragraph 8.14].
