section 8 the Registrar shall within 14 days after the

date of the delivery of the indictment to him order a

hearing before a judge, to take place before the jury is

empanelled (in this Ordinance referred to as a "preparatory

hearing").

When an indictment has been filed under

(2) The Registrar shall endorse on or annex to every

indictment and every copy thereof delivered for service a

notice of the preparatory hearing and such notice shall

specify the date for the commencement of the preparatory

hearing.

(3) The purposes of a preparatory hearing include

(a) the identification of issues likely to be

material to the verdict of the jury;

(b)

assisting the jury's comprehension of any such

issues;

(c) the expedition the proceedings before the jury;

and

(d) assisting the judge's management of the

proceedings.
