42. There should be a greater readiness to impose

appropriate sanctions on those causing unnecessary delays at trial.

43. Jurors should receive from prosecution and defence

counsel copies of the following documents: case statements; statement of matters agreed; summaries of principal issues; opening and closing speeches of counsel; summaries of evidence and experts' reports.

45. The jury should be given copies of the judge's

summing up or the equivalent official court notes, at the judge's discretion.

46. Documentary evidence, particularly numerical information, should be presented clearly and concisely at trial.
