THE OFFICIAL LANGUAGES (AMENDMENT) ORDINANCE 1987

This Ordinance amends the Official Languages Ordinance to provide for the enactment of new legislation in English and Chinese as permitted by the Hong Kong Additional Instructions 1986. The Ordinance will come into force on a future date.

The principal amendments are contained in section 3 which adds new sections 4 to 4C to provide for the scheme for introducing bilingual laws both in relation to new laws and existing laws, including subsidiary legislation; and, in relation to existing laws, for the establishment of a Bilingual Laws Advisory Committee.
3. Before the Acting Governor assented to the Bill in the name and on behalf of Her Majesty, the Attorney General advised that he could properly do so.
