A BILL

To

Amend the Supreme Court Ordinance.

Enacted by the Governor of Hong Kong, with the advice and consent

of the Legislative Council thereof.

1. This Ordinance may be cited as the Supreme Court (Amendment) Short title. Ordinance 1987.

2. Section 2 of the principal Ordinance is amended—

(a) by inserting, after the definition of "action", the following---

““appeal” in the context of appeals to the Court of Appeal in

its civil jurisdiction includes—

(a) an application for a new trial; and

(b) an application to set aside a verdict, finding or judgment in any cause or matter in the High Court which has been tried, or in which any issue has been tried, by a jury;";

(b) by deleting the definition of "cause" and substituting the

following

"cause" means any action or any criminal proceeding;";

(c) by inserting, after the definition of "deputy judge", the following--

"“Government stock" means any stock issued by the Govern- ment or any funds of or annuity granted by the Govern- ment;":
