Background
1. A note of areas of conflict prepared by the DII a few months ago, is attached.
There have been no significant new developments.
2. DTI Kinisters agreed that Mr Facdonald, Dep Sec, should explore with the companies
whether there was any scope for developing a mutual understanding between the companies
over their overseas operations. At a subsequent meeting Bf confirmed it was itself exploring ways of developing a hotline/channel of communication with C &, and that
the company would avoid chasing work in minor markets around the globe.
3. As private companies both ET and C & have the right in a competitive environment
to pursue their own commercial interests in overseas markets.
