The Bond Group has invested in three radio stations- all of them occupying a special pos- ition in Australian life because they serve the people of some of the most isolated parts of an immense country.
Station 8DN in Darwin- Australia's northernmost signifi- cant population centre-brings modern radio programming to an audience which is growing at more than double the national population average.
Some 1.500 kilometres to the south-west, stations 6NW (Port Hedland) and 6KA (Karratha) make their contribution to the lives of the people in Western Australia's sprawling Pilbara Region, one of the world's most important sources of minerals and-in the near future- energy.
Both stations maintain high standards of news and enter- tainment in a region which only two decades ago was largely uninhabited but which today is a vital part of the world economy.
Though the two stations' potential audience may appear small (the Pilbara's population is little more than 50,000), stat- istics are deceptive-half a million tourists a year visit the Pilbara, and the number is growing fast.
