Annex C

Telephone lines for connection of facsimile machines

F

There is no longer any requirement to license

either Telco or the user of data and facsimile services with

the introduction of the Telco Exemption Order in 1979.

2.

In connection with the reported requirement that it is necessary to have a separate telephone line for connection of a data or facsimile terminal, Telco has stated that it is not the Company's policy to insist on a separate telephone line for such applications. However, Telco does recommend this action because it allows the company to provide service using electronic switching equipment, which ensures the best

available service quality.

3.

Telco also indicated that most orders for telephone

lines used for data or facsimile services are passed to the company by agents that sell data or facsimile equipment. Although they have advised agents that new telephone lines are recommended but not essential, some agents may themselves

insist that new lines must be used in order to obtain the best

possible performance from their equipment.
