FCO ORAL QUESTIONS
-
22 APRIL 1987
1. Action is now required on the following points arising from the Secretary of State's meeting with Ministers on 14 April (the lead department in each case is indicated in brackets). I should be grateful if revised material could be submitted to PRU by noon Tuesday 21 April. PRU will make minor amendments to the answers, where mentioned.
(Soviet Department)
PQ No 1
(Cambell-Savours) The department should provide an to reflect the Secretary of State's visit to Washington and Mr Shultz's to Moscow. Extra supplementaries required on the latest position regarding arms control; requests for assurances that British Embassy in Moscow is not bugged/British officials involved in sexual entrapments; jamming of BBC broadcasts has stopped, and date. It was considered that supplementary (A-8) was too upbeat; it should also refer to continuing restrictions on religious belief, Baptists etc. It was thought that comparison with UK (supplementary E-2) (in particular second sentence) was not valid. Extra supplementaries also required highlighting benefits of MOU and the importance of personal contact, following the Prime Minister's recent visit.
