(d) by inserting, after the definition of "judgment", the following-
""Justice of Appeal” includes a judge of the High Court sitting as an additional judge of the Court of Appeal under section 5(2);";
(e) by deleting the definition of “land” and substituting the following-

"land" includes--
(a) land covered by water;
(b) any estate, right, interest or easement in or over any
land; and
(c) things attached to land or permanently fastened to
anything attached to land;";
(f) by inserting, after the definition of "land", the following--

"Master" has the meaning given to it by section 37;”.

Section 3(1) of the principal Ordinance is amended by deleting Amendment of "Judicature" and substituting the following—
section 3.

Section 4 of the principal Ordinance is amended----
Amendment of section 4.
Enacted by the Governor of Hong Kong, with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof.
Short title.
1. This Ordinance may be cited as the Supreme Court (Amendment) Ordinance 1987.
Amendment of section 2. (Cap. 4.)

Section 2 of the principal Ordinance is amended.
(a) by inserting, after the definition of "action", the following-
""appeal" in the context of appeals to the Court of Appeal in
its civil jurisdiction includes-
(a) an application for a new trial; and
(b) an application to set aside a verdict, finding or judgment in any cause or matter in the High Court which has been tried, or in which any issue has been tried, by a jury;";
(b) by deleting the definition of "cause" and substituting the
following

"cause" means any action or any criminal proceeding;";
(c) by inserting, after the definition of "deputy judge", the following-
"Government stock" means any stock issued by the Govern- ment or any funds of or annuity granted by the Govern- ment;";
(a) in subsection (1)—
(i) by deleting "and" at the end of paragraph (a);
(ii) by deleting the full stop at the end of paragraph (b) and substituting the following-
“; and"; and
(iii) by inserting, after paragraph (b), the following-
"(c) such deputy judges as the Chief Justice may appoint.";
and
(b) by deleting subsection (3).
5.
Section 5 of the principal Ordinance is amended by inserting, after Amendment of subsection (1), the following-
section 5.
"(1A) The Chief Justice may appoint one or more of the Justices
of Appeal as vice-presidents of the Court of Appeal.".
6.
Section 7(1) of the principal Ordinance is amended— (a) by inserting, after paragraph (a), the following-
"(aa) the vice-presidents of the Court of Appeal who among themselves shall rank according to the priority of their respective appointments as vice-presidents;"; and
(b) in paragraph (b), by inserting, after "Appeal", the following-
"(other than vice-presidents)”.

Amendment of
section 7.
Section 8 of the principal Ordinance is amended by inserting, after Amendment of "person", in each place where it occurs, the following——
", who is eligible to be appointed to be a judge of the Supreme Court under section 9,".
