Explanatory Note

These regulations provide for supplementary

matters as regards the new pension benefits scheme under

the Pension Benefits Ordinance 1987.

2. Part I provides that the regulations will come into operation on 1 July 1987 and contains the definitions

of the terms used in the regulations.

Part II applies to officers other than those transferred to or from service under the Hong Kong Government from or to public service not under the

Government ("officers other than transferred officers").

Regulation 4 stipulates the pension factors to be applied in respect of service before and after 1 April 1987; and regulation 5 stipulates the rate of short service gratuity.

4. Part III applies to transferred officers (i.e. officers other than those mentioned at paragraph 3). Regulations 8, 9 and 10 provide for the calculation of

pension in respect of public service of such officers with the Hong Kong Government in various circumstances depending on their other public service. Regulation 11 provides for the calculation of short service gratuity, and regulation 12 provides for the computation of deferred pension, of

such officers.

5. 'Part IV contains general provisions. The regulations in this Part provide as follows
