PILOTAGE (AMENDMENT) BILL 1987

4. Section 7 of the principal Ordinance is amended by inserting aner subsection (1) the following-

"(1A) The Authority may exempt an applicant from the require- ments of subsection (1)(b) and (c) if—

(a) the applicant has within the previous 12 months submitted

himself to a similar examination; and

(b) the Authority is satisfied as to the applicant's physical and

mental fitness and eyesight.

(1B) The Director of Medical and Health Services may prescribe the fee payable under subsection (1)(b) and (c).".

Section 10 of the principal Ordinance is amended by deleting subsection (3) and substituting the following---

"(3) The Director of Medical and Health Services may prescribe the fee payable for an examination under subsection (1).”.

Section 10D(4) of the principal Ordinance is amended by inserting after "section" the following-

(Cap. 313.)

"other than one referred to in subsection (2)(a) or to which Part IV of the Shipping and Port Control Ordinance applies,”.

Explanatory Memorandum

This Bill amends sections 4, 7, 10 and 10D of the Pilotage Ordinance to-

(a) revise the membership and the quorum of the Pilotage Advisory

Committee;

(b) empower the Pilotage Authority to exempt an applicant from

medical examination in certain cases;

(c) empower the Director of Medical and Health Services to prescribe

fees for medical and eye tests; and

(d) exempt certain types of hampered vessels from compulsory

pilotage.

The Bill has no financial and Public Service staffing implications.
