Members may be aware of reports that the Shenzhen SEZ authorities have for some time been expressing interest in an airport. It is understood that recent US consultancy report has indicated that an airport on the coast at Huangtian (northwest of the Nantou peninsula) is feasible. It is also reported that the Shenzhen SEZ authorities have submitted proposals to Peking, and that consideration is now being given to the possible construction of an airport by stages. However reports on Huangtian are at times conflicting and there is no clear indication of the current status of this project.
