Western Harbour Lantau Strategic Development

A proposal prepared by Hopewell Holdings, Cheung Kong Holdings and Hutchison Whampoa was presented to the Hong Kong Government in December. Costain have a joint company in Hong Kong with Hopewell and form part of the group that made the presentation. We have a long association with Hong Kong going back to the first Harbour Crossing.

Costain, with its associates, have made application to Her Majesty's Government for 0.P.F. support for engineering studies to be undertaken in furtherance of this scheme. This application is currently being considered by the Department of Trade and Industry.

Mr. Gordon Wu, Managing Director of Hopewell Holdings, is coming to London at the end of next week for some discussions with ourselves on several matters.

I am arranging a presentation by Mr. Wu of his proposals to Mr. Christopher Benjamin, Under-Secretary, Projects and Export Policy Division of the Department of Trade, to be held on Monday 19th January at 11 a.m. followed by an early lunch, at the above address.
