1. Sand Filter
Guang dong Nuclear Power Joint Venture Co. Ltd.
8th May, 1987
The containment pressure relief system, utilising a sand filter, has been developed in France and EdF have decided to install this system on all their 900 MW units. The implementation of this decision has started, but we understand that orders for the first filters will not be placed until October 1987. We understand that EdF plan to complete the installation on all their units by mid 1989.
The Daya Bay units. are based on French standards and practice, and the French reference power station for Daya Bay (Gravelines Units 5 and 6) is included in the Edf plan for fitting sand filters. EdF have recommended that the same approach is taken for Daya Bay.
JVC is therefore proceeding to finalise details with the contractors that will be involved in incorporating the sand filter plant at Daya Bay.
It should be noted
that the sand filter has no function during the normal operation of the power station or during any credible incidents.
It would use in the highly improbable event of a serious
only be considered
for
accident.
