He pointed out that the Legco ad hoc group on the Daya Bay project should obtain more information on the plant before it could step up its monitoring work on the project.
According to the HK Daily News, Mr Lee hoped the Legco group would not accept explanations from the HKNIC before detailed information from the Government was made available to it.
Legco member Pauline Ng said after a public function yesterday that another similar incident should not be allowed to happen in Daya Bay in future.
She said the Government should set up an advisory body comprising HK people to monitor the construction of the plant.
Legco member and convenor of the Legco ad hoc group on the Daya Bay project, Wong Po-yan, said that it was not absolutely necessary to hire international experts to study proposed remedial measures by the JVC, Sing Tao Jih Pao reported. He would maintain close contacts with officials from the HKNIC on the progress of remedial actions.
Tin Tin Daily News reported that as a result of the incident, Martin Lee had reportedly suggested that the Legco ad hoc group should be dismissed. Wong Po-yan was quoted by the paper as saying that his group should not be forced out as they had tried their best.
Many papers carried a report issued by the China News Service from Shenzhen which quoted a technical manager of the JVC as saying that HK people should not have undue worries as remedial measures to be taken would reach the quality requirement.
The Joint Conference for the Shelving of the Daya Bay Project said yesterday that the Chinese authorities should stop building the nuclear plant to prevent more incidents in future, the papers reported.
Fung Chi-wood of the group said that if the Chinese authorities insisted on building the plant, an independent body comprising international experts should be set up to study the proposed remedial
measures.
Another spokesman from the anti-nuclear group, Anthony Ha, said that the recent discovery of errors showed that the Chinese authorities could not be trusted. He said the Legco ad hoc group had failed to perform its monitoring function on the project.
