Sing Tao Jih Pao and Ming Pao quoted a vice-director of the NCNA HK branch, Zhang Junsheng, as saying that the NCNA was very concerned about the incident at the Daya Bay plant. However, Mr Zhang said that they had not heard that work had resumed at the foundation raft in question.
In a separate report, Ming Pao quoted reliable sources as saying that remedial work as proposed by the French company had resumed as reinforcement bars were being put onto the first layer of the foundation raft of Unit 1.
The sources added that work on the second layer had also
started.
Ching Po reported from Shenzhen that Guangdong NPJVC sources
revealed that reinforcement bars for the second layer of the foundation for Unit 1 had already been placed in position. Concrete could be poured if the JVC gave the greenlight.
Tuesday, October 27 - Members of the Legco ad hoc group on the Daya Bay project yesterday met Economic Services Branch officials to discuss the Legco group's four requests in the wake of the construction fault at the plant, the media reported in routine
coverage.
Convenor of the Legco group Wong Po-yan told newsmen after the meeting that the Secretary for Economic Services, Anson Chan, had told them the HK Government had passed on a suggestion by the Legco group to hire independent consultants to study the remedial measures to the Guangdong Nuclear Power Joint Venture Company through the HK Nuclear Investment Company.
Wah Kiu Yat Po quoted Mr Wong as saying that the report on the construction incident to be made available to the Legco group would be made public.
Some papers, including Tin Tin Daily News, Ta Kung Pao, Sing Pao, and the Oriental Daily News, said that the Legco group was told that reinforcement bars which had already been put into position on the second layer of the foundation raft in question could be removed if the Legco group were not satisfied with the proposed remedial
measures.
Tin Tin noted that the executive committee of the JVC would
discuss an initial report on the remedial measures prepared by the French company this morning.
