Wen Wei Po quoted a Government spokesman as saying that the Government was satisfied after reading the draft report on the incident. But the spokesman added that the Government had raised some questions and was awaiting replies from the JVC.

The convenor of the Legco ad hoc group on the Daya Bay project, Wong Po-yan said he believed that the group would soon be briefed before work on the foundation raft resumed.

Legco member Lee Yu-tai said that it was too soon to resume work on the foundation raft before the report on the incident was announced.

Another Legco member Stephen Cheong said one should not be too sensitive over the issue. He hoped the Government would clear the whole matter as soon as possible.

Yet another Legco member, Martin Lee, was quoted as saying that it would not be appropriate to resume work on the foundation before the report on the incident was submitted to the Legco group for discussion.

Anti-nuclear activist Fung Chi-wood said that it was unacceptable that work would resume so soon as it had not satisfied HK people's demand.

A number of papers reported that people from the engineering and technology sectors who visited the plant yesterday felt that the remedial measures were feasible.

Meanwhile, secretary of the Institution of Engineers Ken Bridgewater told Commercial Radio-English's "Talk Show" this morning that his visit to the Daya Bay site yesterday had assured him that there was no reason to further delay the construction work on technical grounds.

However, it had failed to provide a satisfactory explanation on how the mistakes had actually been made and that the Chinese Government owed the HK people an assurance that the system would be improved in the future, he said.

Speaking on the same programme, chairman of the Friends of the Earth, Linda Siddall, said that the hasty decision to proceed with the construction work without a proper assessment of the quality control system at the plant would raise concern that a similar mistake might happen again in the future.
