1. The New China News Agency (Xinhua) in Peking carried the following item on Sunday 28 June:

"Ottawa, June 26 (Xinhua)... The Customs Co-operation Council (CCC) today admitted Hong Kong as its 101st member in recognition of the Special Administrative Region status Hong Kong will assume after China resumes sovereignty in 1997."
