Diversification of Product Lines
Whilst it is difficult to ascertain whether there has been higher-technology development given the lack of precise definition of the term, there has been diversification into new product lines by local manufacturers including for example, the manufacturing of flat cables, cellular radios, application specific integrated circuits (the Motorola Asia Pacific IC Design Centre set up in August 1986 is a case in point), micro- processors, car computers, auto die attachers and multi-layer PCBs. These product lines could be considered higher technology development in the Hong Kong context.
