Manufacturers in the watches and clocks

industry were generally optimistic about Hong Kong's competitive position in the

world market this year due to the

favourable exchange rate associated with a

weak Hong Kong dollar. Furthermore, a

number of firms in this industry were very active in developing new designs and functions for their products.
