construction stage, so I don't know.

MR CHEONG:

I suppose you won't expect Hong Kong to have

4 another structure like this?

D of Ar. S:

This is a one-off, very one-off and a

structure like that I must say is unique in a sense that we are building on top of a railway station, O.K., with railway lines crawling underneath, and the positioning of your foundation is so much restricted. That's one which is already in my response to the Director of Audit, already pointed out, and the other is that assuming we could find our foundations with no restrictions and bring our structures down from the edge of the building as it were, (a) you would have had a much bigger building in volume to build, (b) it would Occupy such an amount of site area on this location that would render the stadium unworkable. As it is already quite difficult when the 17 show is over and the starting of the show, and by reducing the area

actually occupied on site, improved that situation.

An added consideration is that we probably won't be able to find in Hong Kong another site in urban area to build the stadium. This is one thing. And even if we can, the site would have been much bigger if we don't go for that type of design.

MR CHEONG: But really in hindsight, you did say that if there were more detailed study a lot of delay could have been avoided.

D of Ar. S:

That is right, with hindsight, could have been avoided, but as I said earlier, at this point in time I cannot say whether I should, you know, allow the completion of the detailed

design before we start. I mean is it practical?

MR CHEONG:

Just to finish off. If

in case in

future your office is tasked to do certain designs or look after the building of any ore-off situation, would you bear that point in mind?
