DSW: In the case of the youth centre, this is in fact a re-provisioning project of a nearby facility because at the moment it is located in sub-standard accommodation, so I would say that the consequences there is minimal. At worst you would say that maybe the service is not as good as we would like it to be but nevertheless there is a service.

I agree that in the case of the service for the elderly, obviously if we could bring this into operation earlier, then the community would be better served earlier.

MẸ CHUNG: Were these centres previously housed in

private tenements or public housing ?

DSW:

Usually these facilities are located in public housing estates but in areas where, for example, there is no public housing estate we do our best we can to try and get these premises into suitable private premises, such as in this case, so that we can serve the population in that area.

MR CHEONG: Mr Chairman, could I make a suggestion for the Secretary for Administration to consider and that is in the light

of what the Director has just said, that her planning in housing estates is relatively easier because of certain standard fittings, now I do know that you can ask under the Town Planning Ordinance or other Ordinances, for the developers to provide GIC facilities -=

SASI: Yes.

MR CHEONG: Now, I think in the seeking of provision of GIC facilities, perhaps you could look into the possibility of

at least standardising certain areas or fittings or things like that, rather than just leave it to the developers to provide even some area whereby it is twice the normal height.
