HMS Tamar

On the third option, the Prince of Wales Building
(PWB) in HMS Tamar, the present HQ of British Forces in
Hong Kong, is the most obvious example of an existing
building that we might be able to acquire in the
non-commercial office market to adapt as a future British
Consulate- General.

In theory there are a number of arguments in
favour of seeking to use PWB to house the
Consulate-General:
(i)
(ii)
it is a prestigious modern building on a spacious
site, ideally located. There is good access and
parking;
it would easily be able to accommodate all the
sections of the Consulate-General and, if they
wished, the British Council also. Depending on
the latter and on the passport and immigration
sections, there would be space for varying amounts
of residential accommodation. We could house all
these requirements in the tower of the building
only, if this could be negotiated spearately from
the extensive accommodation around the foot of the
tower. (The tower comprises about 17,500m2 of
useable space.);
