THE HONG KONG ASSOCIATION

(A company limited by guarantes, registered in England, No. 703170)

Registered Office

REGIS HOUSE,

43-46 KING WILLIAM STREET,

LONDON E.C.4R 9BE.

AIMS & ACTIVITIES

The Association was formed in order to provide a genuinely

representative body composed of companies and individuals in both Hong Kong and

the United Kingdom to help further the interests of Hong Kong in this country.

Four senior Hong Kong Businessmen representing the territory's banking

and commercial interests are co-opted to the Committee, thus providing a close

link with London.

The rapid growth of Hong Kong's industry and commerce frequently gives

rise to problems, to the solution of which the Association can make an important

contribution by virtue of its composition and constitution.

It is the present policy of the Association to confine its activities to

the broader aspects of such problems, especially those involving contacts in the

Department of Trade and Industry, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and

Parliament itself. An information sheet entitled "Dateline Hong Kong" is

distributed to members monthly by special arrangement with the Hong Kong

Government Office in London.

In

Periodically the Association arranges informal dinners at the House of

Commons with Conservative, Labour and SDP/Liberal Alliance MPs who are members

of the UK-Hong Kong Parliamentary Group. These occasions afford an opportunity

for a frank exchange of views and the correction of possible misconceptions.

addition, two lunch time briefing sessions are held during the year for a wider

audience.

Although the Association office handles numerous trade enquiries it does

not intervene in such day to day trade promotional activities as are already

handled most capably by the HKTDC in London, with which, together with the Hong

Kong Government Office, we maintain close and continuous contact.

On the export side, the Association is strongly represented on the Hong

Kong Trade Advisory Group of the British Overseas Trade Board.

The Hong Kong Association was incorporated on 13 September 1961 under

the Companies Act 1948, as a Company limited by Guarantee and not having a Share

Capital. By licence of the old Board of Trade, the word "Limited" is ommitted

from the Association's title.
