1. Mr Jasper's minute of 29 April and Mr McLaren's minute of 5 May refer. I do not wish at this stage formally to propose any Ministerial visits. But it might be useful for the Committee to

note the possiblity that, depending on the progress of the Review of Representative Government in Hong Kong in the second half of the year, it may be necessary to recommend at fairly short notice a

visit by the Secretary of State to China around the end of the year. If such a visit took place, I would recommend that the Secretary of State visit Hong Kong also.
