4.

A series of further studies related to strategic

and key infrastructure planning are in hand or about

to commence. The Comprehensive Transport Study will indentify priorities for transport infrastructure projects. A study on Hong Kong's future airport needs, with particular regard to the further development potential of Kai Tak Airport, will provide a basis for decision on the need for and timing of a replacement airport. A Port and Airport Development Study will outline development options and programmes comprehensively.

5.

Much of Hong Kong's future infrastructure development is related to the growth in trade with China, and hence future developments in China, particularly in Guangdong Province. A delegation of Hong Kong officials recently visited Guangzhou and Shenzhen with a view to promoting a better mutual understanding of major development proposals in Hong Kong and Guangdong Province, especially for port, airport, road, rail and other infrastructure. The prospects for future co-operation in these areas are

good.
