CAST

PAPER

East Asian Division/ODA

Mr Chilcot of the Home Office wrote to Mr Boyd on 13 July asking for advice about an invitation from the Chinese Military Attache for two British police delegations to visit China later this year. Mr Chilcot does not ask for FCO support for these visits, nor would the FCO be able to fund them.

2. Hong Kong Department do not consider that there are any Hong Kong implications arising from this matter. The ODA have advised us that there is no existing provision for training or advisory work which might arise from these visits. But if the Chinese were keen to have British training in future, then the ODA would be prepared to consider any proposals for funding such schemes from within existing provisions.
