INTERNATIONAL TERRORISM AND HIJACKING

It was felt by both sides that although no terrorist incidents had occurred in either territory, vigilance should however be maintained consistently to prevent such activities. This included the need for continual police training on preventive measures as well as actions in terrorist situations.

The necessity for exchange of information on inter- national terrorists and their movements was stressed.

At the invitation of Mr Liu Wen, the delegation visited the Special Police Force of the People's Armed Police in Beijing which was set up to provide specially trained personnel to cope with terrorist incidents. The delegation met officials of the unit and exchanged views with them.

The unit trains young officers selected from the provinces. A similar yet smaller unit is available in every province to handle crises locally.

Mr Liu Wen expressed a wish to visit the Special Duty Unit of the RHKP in future. Details of the visit are contained in Annexure 'A'.
