VISIT TO LISBON BY HEAD OF HONG KONG GOVERNMENT OFFICE, BRUSSELS

1. I wrote to your Department on 6 August 1986 about a proposed visit to Lisbon by Mr Peter Tsao which was organised through the Portuguese Embassy in Brussels. In the event this did not materialise.

We have now received a telex asking us to help arrange a visit to the new head of the Office, Mr Webb-Johnson, who wants to come from 12 to 13 November. I understand from a telephone call to your Department that you would be happy for us to assist in this way, which we will do. Meanwhile it would be helpful if you could let me know whether you would normally want the Embassy to accompany Mr Webb-Johnson on his calls. It would be helpful also to have up-to-date guidance on Vietnamese refugees, which he wishes to discuss in the MFA and any other points of which you might want us to be aware.
