1.
Mr McLoughlin has not previously tabled questions on China.
On 1 December 1986, Mr Cook asked questions on the Daya Bay nuclear power station and on what economic concessions the UK expected to obtain in return for the transfer to China of sovereignty over Hong Kong.
2. The Secretary of State last visited the People's Republic of China during the State Visit in October 1986, and has no precise plans for another visit in the near future.
3. Premier Zhao Ziyang was confirmed as Secretary-General of the Chinese Communist Party at the recent Party Congress. He visited the UK as leader of a delegation from Sichuan Province in 1979 and again as Premier in 1985. There are specific plans to invite him to visit the UK in the near future.
