The value of
Hong Kong's imports from China also increased substantially in the second quarter of 1987. such imports, at HK$29,110 million (US$3,730 million), was 48% higher than in the same quarter in 1986. This increase was largely due to a rapid growth in re-exports of China origin, reflecting the success of China's efforts in promoting its exports. In the second quarter of 1987, the value of such re-exports increased by 70% over the same quarter in 1986. The increase in outward processing activities was another factor contributing to the
substantial increase in imports from China.
