The growth momentum in Hong Kong's re-exports to China revived in the fourth quarter of 1986 and continued into the first half of 1987. At HK$14,228 million (US$1,823 million) in the second quarter of this year, the value of such re-exports was 47% higher than in the same quarter last year.

Analysed by products, domestic exports to China of all major commodities registered substantial increases in the second quarter of 1987. Compared with the same quarter in 1986, domestic exports of telecommunications and sound recording apparatus, and of textile yarn and fabrics grew strongly, followed by miscellaneous manufactured articles, electrical machinery and clothing (see table for details). On the same basis of comparison, re-exports of photographic supplies, optical goods and watches and clocks, telecommunications and sound recording apparatus, electrical machinery, office machines, and textile yarn and fabrics showed strong increases (see table for details).
