The UK plays a rapidly expanding educational role in China. Scholarship schemes include eg Sino-British Friendship Scholarships Scheme, Royal Fellowships, ODA Technical Cooperation awards.

end of 1987 there will be about 2,000 Chinese postgraduate students
The in the UK and aoout 120 British undergraduates in China. British Council and VSO play a growing role in English Language Training, with 130 English Language teachers and 30 VSO's currently teaching English in China. Formal academic links with China are
growing steadily, from 10 in 1981 to over 90 today.
