In Confidence

During a recent talk with our Ambassador in Peking,

Sir Geoffrey Howe was struck by the extent of our current

dealings with China. He thought that the Prime Minister

and other colleagues might be interested in the enclosed

snapshot paper which sets out the progress made towards

meeting our policy objectives towards China.

I am copying this letter to Private Secretaries to members

of the Cabinet and to Sir R Armstrong's Private

Secretary.
