He was also the spokesman for the more liberal wing of the reformist group which though silent nowadays has not entirely disappeared. His opponents are probably right in suspecting the existence of a Hu Yaobang faction. For the moment it is headless. But there is a constituency there for a future Hu- type leader to draw upon.
