CHINESE PERMANENT CEMETERIES (AMENDMENT) BILL 1987
Introduction
The purpose

to seek Members' approval for the introduction into the Legislative Council of the Chinese Permanent Cemeteries (Amendment) Bill 1987, at the Annex.
Background

The Board of Management of the Cemeteries, established under Chapter 1112, benefit of persons of the Chinese race, located respectively at Aberdeen, Tsuen Wan, new site
site at Junk Bay has been granted to development of a new cemetery.

Chinese Permanent operates for the three cemeteries and Chai Wan. A the Board for the
Section 3 of Chapter 1112 provides for the Secretary
for District Administration as ex-officio Director of Buildings and Lands and the Services as ex-officio members, of the Board.

Proposal

By virtue of the Private Cemeteries (Urban Council) By-laws (Chapter 132), the Director of Urban Services exercises supervisory control on behalf of the Urban Council over private cemeteries in the urban area. Until 1 April 1985 the Private Cemeteries (New Territories) Regulations (Chapter 132) also empowered him to supervise private cemeteries in the New Territories. The Director's presence at the Board has proved to be most useful.

Following the establishment of the Regional Council on 1 April 1986, the Private Cemeteries (New Territories)
Regulations have been replaced by the Private Cemeteries
