9.2

Under the recommended deployments and a two-tier no increase in Hospital Transfer Vehicles is envisaged, the routine tier, as the frail condition of many requires a higher level of care than is possible with a Hospital Transfer Vehicle. However, all vehicles need not carry the full range of emergency equipment. 157 fully operational ambulances will be required each day, plus eight emergency

reserve,

six training and a maintenance allowance of approximately 20 per cent. This gives a total requirement of 207 ambulances and 10 HTV, ie. 217 vehicles in 1986 to implement the recommendations in this report.

9.3

According to the required increases in deployments over the next five years as developed in this study, total vehicle requirements, including 10 HTV, emergency reserve, maintenance reserve and training will increase annually as shown in Table 5. These figures are produced graphically in Appendix 6. The allowances for emergency reserve and maintenance reserve are consistent with current practice.

These may change, however, subject to further review of policy and vehicle maintenance arrangements.
