15. The new section 27A in clause 28 requires the

Director to be notified of certain occurrences.

section 27B requires the owners of lifts and escalators to

keep a record of the examination, maintenance and testing

of lifts and escalators.

16. Clause 29 inserts new Part IVA in the Ordinance

relating to service lifts. Part IVA consists of new

sections 27C to 27F inclusive. Section 27C provides for

the construction of service lifts, and section 27D for the

prohibition against the overloading and carriage of persons

in such lifts. Sections 27E and 27F provide respectively

for the duty of the owners and operators of such lifts.

17. Clause 30 amends section 28 which deals with

offences and penalties.

18. The new section 29A in clause 32 prohibits the

carrying out of lift works or escalator works by

unauthorized persons.

19. Clause 33 amends section 30(3) by increasing the

maximum penalties for corruption as follows -

(a) on summary conviction, from $5,000 fine and 2

years' imprisonment to $100,000 fine and 3 years

imprisonment; and

(b)

on conviction on indictment, from $10,000 fine

and 5 years' imprisonment to $500,000 fine and 7

years' imprisonment.

The maximum penalties will be the same as in the Prevention

of Bribery Ordinance.
