(2) Description of Proposed Amendments

The originally proposed Morrison Street

Footbridge runs directly into the Western Market and

would not be compatible with the Market building both

structurally and in appearance unless the Market is

redeveloped. In view of the proposal, to preserve the

Western Market, it is necessary to relocate the

Footbridge about 4 metres westward so as to put it in

line with On Tai Street, clear of the facade of the

Western Market.

The existing tramstop for eastbound trams,

which situates on the east side of the proposed Tung

Hing Lane Footbridge, will remain after the completion

of the footbridge. In order that pedestrians can have

direct access from the footbridge to the tramstop, it

is necessary to relocate the southernmost staircase of

the footbridge to its east side.

The proposed amendment works which are shown

on Plan Nos. HH5396 and HH5401 involve :

(a)

For the proposed Morrison Street

Footbridge :

(i)

the relocation of the proposed

footbridge for a distance of about

4 metres westward along Connaught

Road West, so as to put this

footbridge in line with On Tai

Street;
