task to improve our monitoring and supervision. So if
there are any
any obvious improvements that we can make, we
shall of course make them ahead of any report.

Sir, I note from the Financial Secretary's
reply that an accountant is to be seconded to the Banking
Commissioner of Banking's Office. I see this as a very
welcome, forward step. Is consideration being given
co-opting more staff from the private sector with relevant
practical expertise to
Commissioners?

FINANCIAL SECRETARY : Sir, as Mr. SOHMEN knows, this is a
subject very near and dear to my heart. I think it could
well be the way forward for offices involved in any
regulatory activity. So, certainly it is very much in the
forefront of my mind and it is an idea that we will pursue
and develop.
