from the FoR, CHEUNG Yan-lung

in the Legislative Council on Wednesday 9 Desember 1987–

Sale of corrosive acito

1. Mr. CHEUNG asked (in Cantonese):

As there have been cases involving the use of

corrosive acids as an offensive weapon to inflict serious and permanent injuries on victims, will Government -inform this Council whether it has any plan to control the sale of corrosive acids, such as hydrochloric acid? ·

SECRETARY FOR SECURITY:

Sir,

10

1987/3

In the first ten months of 1987 six cases were reported of throwing a corrosive fluid with intent to do

grievous bodily harm. While the Government finds these cases abhorrent, it does not consider that any purpose would be served by cerunthe sale of corrosive acids, such as

to control

trying

hydrochloric acid, nor does it have any plans to do so. The fact is that corrosive acids are used extensively in industry in Hong Kong.
