be in a position to invite tenders for a cable television

service in the second half of 1988.

In cultural activities Hong Kong is now taking its rightful place as an important centre in the Region.

122.

The Government's policy is to promote

appreciation of, and participation in, cultural and

artistic activities.

This policy emphasises the development of local talent and local professional performing companies as well as the provision of suitable facilities in which they can perform.

123.

Over the last decade there has been a

significant expansion in such facilities. New concert

halls and theatres have been provided been provided

throughout the

territory by the Government and the two Municipal

Councils. These include new Town Halls in Tsuen Wan, Sha
